Spotlight on Cavendish, PEI

Cavendish and the Dune Shores run along northern Prince Edward Island, and is a short car ride from the Bayside RV Campground.

Cavendish is a beautiful area on the north shore, where waterviews of the ocean abound. It’s a very family centered place, with something for everyone to enjoy.

Creamy beaches for yourself, red sandstone cliffs and sandy dunes. Swim in crystal blue water warmed by the Gulf stream. The beaches attract thousands of visitors from around the world… and the beaches are just the beginning.

There’s no shortage of things to do in the Cavendish area. Golf on world-class championship courses or play mini-golf with the kids. Try deep sea fishing, horse back riding, para sailing, sea kyaking, riding a roller coaster or visiting sites that make history come alive. Treat yourself to a quick snack or relax and enjoy a fine dining experience. You decide what kind of vacation you want.

Busy and active… quiet and relaxing… or a bit of both. Cavendish is surrounded by small farming communities and fishing villages with an atmosphere all their own. Shop for antiques and unique art crafted by local artisans or explore a botanical garden, knowing that on PEI you’re never far from the sea.

This is the home of Anne of Green Gables, Lucy Maud Montgomery’s famous novel about a little red-haired girl who captures everyone’s heart. Step back to a simpler time as you explore the place that inspired the book. Many of the areas she wrote about are still recognizable today in Cavendish and the surrounding area. The landscape, the dunes, and many of the same houses are there for visitors to see. Her books are brought to life when you see the landscapes and villages she saw when she was writing.

Cavindish is also home to the Cavendish Beach Music Festival. In 2009 the first annual festival took place and what a hit.

World renown musicians Tim McGraw, and Reba McEntire headlined the event, and many other Canadian, American, and local acts graced the stage. Notably: Big&Rich, Willie Mack, Doc Walker, Aaron Lines, Tara Oram, Paul Brandt Steve Azar, Deric Ruttan, Bruce Guthro, Joan Kennedy, The Keats… well the list goes on and on!

The Bayside RV Campground hosted many campers who came to PEI just to see this event. There was a shuttle bus to and from the campground, to enable a safe and worry free time at the festival. Book early for next year, you won`t want to miss it.
